About Department

Urban and Regional Planning discipline aims to ensure that spatial developments in all kinds of human settlements from national to local scale are shaped within the framework of a plan / order. Urban and Regional Planner is a specialist who, in order to ensure the planned development of settlements, evaluates spatial, social, demographic, economic and technical data that may be effective in the change of settlements together with aesthetic, cultural (historical-archaeological), natural/ecological factors, designs participatory decision-making processes, sets goals and objectives for the future, defines implementation tools and processes, creates alternative proposals for decision-makers and takes part in their implementation.

Vision
The vision of the department is to be a nationally and internationally recognised institution that has developed its education and research infrastructure, cooperates with regional institutions, and contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the region with its research and application projects.

Mission
The mission of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning is to be a department that educates urban and regional planners who plan livable settlements, are creative, innovative, have professional ethics and values, believe in the priority of public interest, respect nature and cultural heritage, and can use technology.

History of the Department
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning was first established under the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in 2009 and then affiliated to the Faculty of Architecture and Design established in 2012. The Department of Urban and Regional Planning started undergraduate education in the 2018-2019 Autumn Term. Our department gave its first graduates in 2022.
